Mail, backups, and a quiet server

Bank letters vanished. The site was up, the mailbox was not. Nobody wanted to “try a new host” until we knew the cause.

DNS, spam filters, disk, and a backup that had not run in months. We fixed the mail path, proved a restore, and left a short checklist.

Mail returned the same day. The next incident will be shorter because the restore is no longer a mystery.
