Ice Cream — Inventory and Sales Management for a Retail Network
The Challenge
The client operates a network of five ice cream kiosks located in busy tourist areas.
Each location used a basic cash register that could not run additional software.
The business was facing several operational problems:
- significant discrepancies between recorded sales and actual stock;
- difficulties tracking products sold by weight;
- dozens of different ice cream flavors at each location;
- difficulties planning stock levels and deliveries;
- the risk of products being written off because they were not replaced in time.
Each kiosk typically carried 18–30 different flavors, making simple quantity-based sales tracking insufficient.
What We Did
We developed a web application using a client-server architecture on top of WordPress.
Each employee received a personal account and a simple interface designed specifically for their role and daily workflow.
We created separate tools for different levels of the business:
Sales Staff
- quick recording of sold flavors and quantities;
- weight and stock control;
- personal user accounts.
Administrators
- inventory management;
- sales and physical stock reconciliation;
- monitoring individual locations.
Management
- a consolidated dashboard for the entire network;
- sales and inventory monitoring;
- data for delivery and stock planning.
The Result
All employees can work with the system through a standard web browser, without installing any additional software on the existing cash registers.
The client gained:
- more accurate sales and cash tracking;
- faster inventory checks;
- transparent stock control;
- better planning of deliveries between locations;
- timely replacement of unsold products;
- centralized visibility across the entire network.
In the following season, the client expanded the business by opening three additional locations, growing the network from five to eight points of sale.
